Olympic gold medal-winning figure skater Carol Heiss Jenkins will answer audience questions after a rare showing of a 1961 musical/comedy/fantasy in which she starred, Snow White And The Three Stooges, on Saturday, January 5, at 7:00 pm at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, 11141 East Boulevard in University Circle, telephone (216) 421-7450 - Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque

Heiss Jenkins, in her only film role, plays an ice-skating Snow White who is protected from the evil queen, not by seven dwarfs, but by the Three Stooges (Larry, Moe, and Curly-Joe). Shot in color and Cinemascope, with five songs and two ice ballets, SNOW WHITE AND THE THREE STOOGES was the most expensive and elaborate Stooges movie ever made. The Cinematheque will show a new 35mm film print from the 20th Century Fox Studio Archive.

Tickets (at the door) are $8, Cinematheque members $6, kids 12 & under $5. There is free parking in the adjacent Cleveland Institute of Art lot.

A long standing Certified Master Professional Figure Skating Coach, Kent State University Learn to Skate School Director, Senior Coach for the Kent Figure Skating Club, & Professor for the Kent State University Physical Education Department, lived the best years of his life with his family, friends and students. He is survived by his sons Jason (Luana) and their children Felicia and Alessio; Justin, Joel and Jaemie. Training is provided for any persons (14 years old and above) who want to help ON THE ICE teaching the basics of ice skating.

The Adapted Learn-to-Skate & Trinity Special Olympics program is seeking persons to physically assist and communicate with our pre-school - adult age skaters.
We provide games & activities, adaptive equipment and other tools for learning.
We teach the basics of “how to” skate, figure skating (solo, pairs & dance), speed skating and ice hockey.
We need those who can commit a minimum of 1 hour each Saturday.
Volunteer training for the 2007-2008 season will be

This year’s seminar features Ann Seror-Barr, a technical caller from Michigan, as well as other technical specialists and judges to be announced. This year’s seminar will be a full day, featuring extensive review of the new May changes. There will be different focus groups: one for all Ohio coaches and officials, another for skaters, and another for parents. There will also be availability for individual program review. Apr 10 2007Cleveland SC: Professional Stars, Special Olympics highlight 70th annual Cleveland Skating Club Ice Show: “Enchanted Ice”
CLEVELAND….Celebrating its 70th decade of bringing professional and local skaters together in the largest and only show of it’s kind, the Cleveland Skating Club is teaming up with Special Olympics to present “Enchanted Ice”. The show, which will take place on May 4 and 5, 2007 at 7:30 PM at the Cleveland Skating Club in Shaker Heights, will feature guest stars Jeffrey Buttle and Joannie Rochette and it will benefit Special Olympics.
Three-time Canadian National Men’s Champion and 2006 Olympics Bronze Medalist Jeffrey Buttle, known for his jumping ability, will perform along with Joannie Rochette, the promising 2006 Skate Canada Women’s Champion. Alongside these professionals, 150 local skaters will perform a range of colorful and artistic numbers, including 2 father/daughter performances (“Little Girls” and “What the World Needs Now”).
Proceeds from this year’s performance will help benefit Special Olympics of Ohio/Greater Cleveland. Tickets to the Show, on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 are $15.00, $20.00 and $25.00 and are available by calling the Cleveland Skating Club’s Ice Show Ticket Office at 216-791-2800, ext. 255.

1. All registration forms have been received. Everyone is registered.
2. Official Practice and Competition Groups will be posted once the seeding is completed by the Chief Referee and Chief Accountant. Check the web site.
3. Hotel confirmations are being sent via email. All Regions should receive emails with confirmation numbers in about a week. Phone calls were made only if there was a problem concerning the hotel assignment.
4. The schedule for Unofficial Practice Ice is being finalized this week. Notifications will follow soon thereafter.

ICE SESSIONS DESCRIPTIONS
SKILLS CLASS/LEARN TO SKATE
A fun and exciting group class for beginners through basic badge 8. This class is designed to teach the basics of skating whether your child figure skates, plays hockey, or just wants to be able to skate for recreation. Our program is taught by FFSC professional coaches along with our head coach Marianne Parker who has over 25 years coaching experience. This class will perform a group number in the Christmas Exhibition and the Spring Ice Show. Participants in the Skills Class are eligible to compete at Euclid and Kent Basic Skills Competitions.
POWER SKATING
A group class for skaters from basic 5 and up. This class will emphasize stroking, jumping, and spinning techniques. This will help a student become a stronger skater not only by refining their skills but will also increase their power and stamina through various drills.
GENERAL SESSIONS
A combination of Freestyle, Moves-in-the-Field, and Dance on Forestwood FSC ice. Our Club Room will be open and music equipment will be available. You may arrange for private lessons with the coach of your choice.
CITY ICE
A combination of Freestyle, Moves-in-the-Field, and Dance on City Ice. Our Club Room may or may not be open and music equipment may not be available. You may also arrange for private lessons with the coach of your choice. (link)

Dec 6 2005There was an error on the *Application Form* page of the CIC Synchronized Team Skating Championships announcement. The words *Fee: $85 per team/per event plus $20 per competitor/per event (including alternates)* should be deleted from the application as that amount is incorrect. The correct fees are $50 per team/per event and $10 per skater/event. Sorry for the confusion. The correct application is now posted.

Aug 23 2005Euclid Blade & Edge Club: The CE Orr Arena unfortunately cannot open as scheduled next Tuesday (Aug 30). A breaker blew and the pad had a meltdown. This may have been due to the storm generated power outage last Saturday. The rink hopefully will open on Thursday Sept 1st. Check Euclid*s website www.euclidskating.org for updates.

Jun 18 2005The Greater Cleveland Council received official word this week that we were chosen to be the host for the 2007 U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships. The dates are approximately November 28 - December 2, 2006. We are honored to be chosen from the five bids that were received by U.S. Figure Skating. Watch for details in the future as we begin to select our committees. Again we will be looking to the clubs in GCCFSC to participate.
Jun 14 2005Pavilion SC of Cleveland Hgts: Fundraising show at Cleveland Heights Community Center June 24. Pavilion SC and the City of Cleveland Heights are hosting this event which headlines Surya Bonaly as well as other National competitors and local skaters. Tickets are $10.

Jun 14 2005There will be a Memorial Service for Dorothy Nyman held in July. The exact date and place will be determined by Dorothy*s family and we will post the information as soon as it becomes available. Dorothy*s family would like any stories that you might like to share to be sent to Diane Murphy at cleveskate@aol.com by July 1st. The Plain Dealer will publish an article about Dorothy along with the information about the Memorial Service and any information/stories we can collect would be very helpful.
Jun 13 2005The Greater Cleveland Council of FSC*s is sad to announce that Dorothy Nyman, one of our beloved area judges passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2005. Funeral arrangements have not been made public yet, but will be posted on this site as soon as the information becomes available
